[1]. A future safety standard is in the works to require lap-shoulder belts in all rear seating positions of passenger cars. President George W. Bush signed H.R. 5504 ("Anton's Law") on 4 December 2002, which requires study and rulemaking on this issue.

[2]. Pre-drilled holes for upper tether anchors are included in many vehicles manufactured since January 1, 1989.  Tether anchor retrofit kits are often available.  Contact your car dealer for more information.

[3]. Indicates a standard that is related to the phase-in of the LATCH system.
